PEO Atlas

Disclaimer

PEO Atlas is a free matching service that helps businesses compare PEO and HR outsourcing providers. We are not a PEO, payroll, benefits, insurance, tax, HR, or legal provider, and we do not perform HR work.

What this site is — and what it is not

PEO Atlas helps small and growing businesses find and compare PEO and HR outsourcing providers. Our service is free for the business. We share general information and help you get matched based on your business size, state, and the kind of support you are looking for.

We are not a PEO. We are not an HR department, payroll processor, benefits broker, insurance company, accountant, or law firm. We do not run payroll, sponsor benefits, file taxes, manage claims, or handle employee HR tasks for your business.

Nothing on this site should be taken as HR, payroll, tax, insurance, benefits, or legal advice. Rules and costs vary by state and by provider. Before you make a decision, you should review the provider's terms carefully and, when needed, speak with a licensed PEO, accountant, broker, or attorney.

General information only

We work hard to make this site clear and useful, but the information here is general. It may not fit your exact business, workforce, industry, or state. Laws, tax rules, workers' comp rules, and benefits requirements can change, and providers may change their pricing, service model, and contract terms.

That means you should not rely on this site alone when choosing a provider or making compliance decisions. Use this site as a starting point to understand the process, compare options, and prepare better questions.

If you need advice for your specific situation, talk directly with a licensed provider or your own professional advisor. State rules matter, especially for payroll tax setup, workers' comp, leave rules, and benefits.

How matching works

If you contact us, we ask for basic business and need details only, such as your business name, contact information, headcount, state, and what you need help with. This helps us understand whether a PEO or HR outsourcing provider may be a fit.

We do not ask for sensitive payroll or employee records just to match you. That means we do not ask for EINs, bank account numbers, employee Social Security numbers, full employee rosters, income details, or health records.

If you choose to speak with a provider, that provider may later request more information as part of its own review process. That step happens with the provider, not as part of our basic matching process. For more on how we handle information, see our Privacy Policy.

  • We collect business + need details only for matching
  • We do not perform HR, payroll, or benefits administration
  • You choose whether to speak with any matched provider

Costs, quotes, and no guarantees

PEO pricing is not one fixed number. In the market, you may see pricing quoted as a per-employee-per-month fee or as a percentage of payroll. As a general range only, some providers may fall around roughly $40-$160 per employee per month, while some percentage-based models may fall around roughly 2%-12% of payroll.

These are not quotes, and they are not promises of what you will pay. The real number depends on your headcount, payroll size, industry, claims history, states of operation, benefits choices, and the exact services included.

We do not guarantee savings, approval, service availability, benefit rates, contract terms, or business outcomes. Any estimate or range on this site is for general education only. You should always get the full pricing details and contract directly from the provider before signing.

About co-employment and your control

If you choose a PEO, the relationship usually involves co-employment. In plain English, that means the PEO becomes a co-employer for certain payroll, tax, and benefits purposes, while your business still runs the company.

You keep control of your business. You decide who to hire, who to fire, pay rates, schedules, job duties, performance standards, and day-to-day management. The PEO may help handle back-office employer functions, but it does not take over your company.

Because service models differ, ask each provider to explain exactly what it will handle and what stays with you. Read the full agreement so you understand responsibilities, service scope, and how the relationship works in your state.

Provider review and contract warning signs

We encourage every business owner to compare providers carefully. A match is not a recommendation, endorsement, or guarantee that a provider is right for your business. You should review licensing, service scope, support model, and contract terms yourself.

Read the full contract before signing. Pay close attention to all fees, the contract term, renewal rules, and exit conditions. Plain red flags include vague or bundled fees, long lock-in terms, hidden setup charges, hidden exit charges, no recognized accreditation, and pressure to sign quickly.

When reviewing a PEO, it is reasonable to ask whether it is an IRS-Certified PEO and whether it has ESAC accreditation. Those do not replace your own review, but they can be useful checkpoints. If you have questions about a specific provider or this site, contact us.

In plain English

PEO Atlas is a free way to compare PEO options, but we are not the provider and we do not give HR, tax, insurance, or legal advice.
